Novel Inflammatory Biomarkers in Chronic Urticaria Patients
1. Investigator Initiated (2011-2013)(Co-Investigators Dr. Purvi Parikh, Dr. David Rosenstreich, Dr. Sunit Jariwala, and Dr. Golda Hudes) This study examines inflantmatory biomarkers such as VEGF and MMP in those patients with Chronic Urticaria for better understanding of the underlying pathophysiology of the disease.
Discordance between Skin Prick Test and Serum IgE in children under four years old.
2. Investigator Initiated (201 l-20I3) (Co-Investigator Dr. Gabriele deVos and Dr. Purvi Parikh) This study examines wheezing children between ages of 12-36 months to see how many allergen sensitized children are missed by one method of testing over the other. The implication of identifying children early include early intervention with immunotherapy and prediction of development of asthma later in life.
Arginine Metabolism in Asthmatics and Patients with Pulmonary Hypertension
3. Investigator Initiated (2009-2011) (Co-Investigator Dr. Purvi Parikh and Dr. Serpil Erzurum) This is a prospective clinical study in which we are looking at arginine metabolism in asthma patients and those PAH. Studies have shown that arginine metabolism differs in these patients and thus decreases blood flow in vessels to their lungs and thus decreases airflow to the lungs. We are infusing arginine into healthy patients, and those with PAH to see if this is significant.
Investigating the link between Renal Function and Severe Asthma
4. Investigator Initiated (2009- 2011) (Co-Investigator Dr. Purvi Parikh and Dr. Serpil Erzurum) This is a prospective clinical trial in which we are looking at renal function in Asthmatics. Studies have shown that asthmatics have unusually high amounts of amino acid in their urine suggesting their kidneys function differently than healthy people without asthma. The goal is to determine how kidney function varies in patients with asthma versus those without. Additional comparison of kidney functions will be evaluated based on the severity of the asthma.
